What is Sage Essential Oil?

Salvia sclarea, or clary sage, is a plant from the sage genus with a green stem and purple flowers. This versatile herb originally comes from the Balkans.

'Salvia' comes from the Latin word for 'to save', which is a clear hint at the powers of Sage... you'll read more about that below!

Both the Greeks and the Romans believed that Sage encouraged a long life, and the Egyptians used it to promote fertility.

Later, people began processing it into oil through steam distillation. Both the stems and the beautiful purple flowers are used for this. The result is a colourless to yellow oil. By diffusing this oil, for example with a diffuser or in a warm bath, Sage does its work as a 'saviour'. It is a pick-me-up for the immune system, brings relief when the respiratory system feels tight, yet is calming at the same time.   Add 10 drops of Sage Essential Oil to a glass of cooled, boiled water. Rinse the skin with it or dab the mixture onto the skin with a cotton pad.
