More about fine sea salt

Sea salt is obtained by evaporating seawater in salt pans. These are man-made shallow basins into which seawater is channelled. After evaporation, the remaining salt is scooped up, ground and sieved for impurities. This is the traditional way of harvesting salt and has the advantage that smaller minerals are not lost in the process, but remain present in the end product.

Our fine sea salt comes from Portugal, where it is harvested in the lagoon of the Ria Formosa nature reserve on the Algarve coast. The salt can – of course – be used for consumption and can also be added to all kinds of personal care products.

Use

Of course, you can use fine sea salt in the kitchen just as you are used to. You can also incorporate fine sea salt into personal care products in many different ways. How about a lovely salt scrub, for example? Mix 200 grams of fine sea salt with 50 ml of carrier oil (e.g. sweet almond oil, jojoba oil or coconut oil) and add a few drops of essential oil (e.g. lavender, manuka or lemongrass). For a more thorough scrub – for your legs and feet, for example – you can replace half of the salt with coarse sea salt. Besides scrubs, you can also use fine sea salt in a shampoo or in a salt spray, for example.
